Clash between police and criminals in Sinaloa left 13 dead and 4 arrested
During an operation in Guasave, Sinaloa, 13 alleged cartel members were killed, 4 arrested, and 9 kidnapped victims rescued.
Thirteen alleged members of a drug cartel were killed on Monday during an armed confrontation with security forces in the Mexican state of Sinaloa.
Authorities also reported that four suspects were arrested and nine kidnapped individuals were rescued following the operation in the municipality of Guasave. According to a statement shared on social media by the Secretary of Public Security, Omar García Harfuch, the incident began when security agents on patrol were ambushed by armed men hiding beneath a bridge, triggering an intense shootout.
After the confrontation, officers seized seven vehicles, several high-caliber weapons, and tactical gear, García Harfuch confirmed. Although officials have not yet revealed which criminal organization the deceased suspects belonged to, the municipality of Guasave is known to be a stronghold of “El Chapo Isidro.”
Early reports suggested that “El Chapo Isidro” might have been captured during the operation, but authorities have not confirmed this information. Federal investigations indicate that the criminal group “Los Mazatlecos,” led by Fausto Isidro Meza Flores, has long terrorized communities in northern Sinaloa amid violent territorial disputes with the Sinaloa Cartel.
In the United States, Meza Flores was first indicted in 2012 by the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. A second federal indictment followed in 2019, accompanied by a federal arrest warrant, accusing him of multiple counts of drug trafficking and illegal possession of firearms.
