Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard (CGRI) said it had attacked three oil vessels on "unauthorized routes" in the Strait of Hormuz and three vessels linked to the United States in "other areas", in retaliation for the early U.S. attacks, Iranian news agency Fars.
The Fars statement detailed that the Iranian Aerospace Force also attacked a U.S. Navy carrier and a destroyer with ballistic missiles in response to U.S. military attacks on three Iranian oil tankers on Saturday morning.
According to Iranian state television IRIB, the Navy of the Islamic Republic has warned all ships in the Persian Gulf or near the Strait of Hormuz to “abstain from carrying out any suspicious movement intended to transit by unauthorized maritime routes. Otherwise, they will be attacked.”
The U.S. Army’s attack came after the Islamic Revolutionary Guard (CGRI) fired ballistic missiles against two U.S. Navy warships patroling the waters of the region.
In a statement, the U.S. Central Command (Centcom) detailed that a U.S. aircraft carrier and missile destroyer “successfully evaded multiple Iranian attacks” and no U.S. personnel were injured.
The United States has established a siege of Iranian ports and ships and in recent weeks it has managed to restore part of maritime traffic through the strait along a southern route near Oman, according to oil and Middle East experts.
