The Department of Justice (DOJ) requested this Monday that the criminal case against union leader David Huerta, who was arrested in June 2025 while protesting the Trump administration's immigration measures in Los Angeles and Southern California, be dropped.
The federal prosecutor's office in Los Angeles asked to dismiss the case against Huerta, president of the California Service Employees International Union (SEIU), which represents more than 750,000 workers, including janitors and security agents.
Federal government officials said they will request that the case against Huerta be dropped in the coming weeks if Huerta complies with the conditions of his probation and does not get into trouble with the law again.
