Los Angeles seeks to create ICE-free zones to protect residents
The Board of Supervisors urged its lawyers to draft an ordinance to create 'ICE-free zones' to prevent the use of its facilities by federal agents
Immigration and Customs Enforcement ( ICE ) agents are no longer present in the new spaces that Los Angeles County is working on.
The state Board of Supervisors gave the county's attorneys the task of creating "ICE-free zones" and forbid county-owned facilities from acting as staging facilities or control centers for federal immigration authorities.
The movement, introduced by Supervisors Lindsey Horvath and Hilda Solis, was inspired by a Chicago mayor's executive order from October that forbids immigration authorities from using area properties while conducting business.
