The Mexican Consulate General in Atlanta confirmed the death of a Mexican migrant who was in the custody of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in the state of Georgia.

The diplomatic mission reported that the Mexican man died on January 14. 2026 at the Robert A. Deyton Detention Facility, an immigration processing center located in Lovejoy, Clayton County.

To date, the identity of the Mexican migrant has not been revealed.

Investigation and contact with the family

The consulate stated that it has already established immediate contact with the migrant's family members, both in the United States and in Mexico, to whom it is providing support, guidance, and consular assistance.

It is also reported that it is maintaining constant communication with the ICE Field Office in Atlanta.

Mexican authorities requested that the circumstances of the death be clarified and assured that they are collaborating with the corresponding agencies so that the investigation is carried out promptly and transparently.
