California Governor Gavin Newsom accused President Donald Trump of carrying out political persecution against him.
In a statement, the California government referred to federal court documents and internal text messages that were recently published and show that the immigration raid on August 14, 2025 was a political maneuver while Newsom was holding a press conference.
Newsom's office said that, according to evidence presented in court, Homeland Security Investigations staff described the Aug. 14 raid as “a political agenda” that diverted officers from other law enforcement activities.
