At least twelve people died this Sunday in a plane crash in the city of Butler, Missouri (United States), according to the state Highway Patrol (MSHP) in its X profile.

MSHP officers are at the scene of the crash - near Butler Memorial Airport on Business Interstate 49 - assisting the Butler Police Department and the Bates County Sheriff's Office.

“At this time, reports indicate that all occupants (12 total) are deceased,” the patrol wrote.

The plane, carrying several skydivers from the Skydive Kansas City free fall center, had just taken off but was unable to gain altitude, turned left and finally crashed around 11:30 a.m. local time, Dennis Jacobs, the airport's acting manager, told NBC News.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) said it was gathering information and announced that it would possibly begin an investigation into the matter.
