Russia launched a total of 29 missiles and 396 drones against Ukraine, according to a report released Tuesday morning by the Ukrainian Air Force, which tracks the movement of projectiles in real time on its Telegram channel.

This bombardment—the possibility of which had been warned about the day before by Ukrainian President Volodymyr—was a massive attack on Ukraine. Zelensky, citing information from his intelligence service, comes just hours before negotiators from Kyiv, Moscow, and Washington begin the third round of trilateral talks in Geneva, Switzerland, which began this year to seek a negotiated solution to the war. According to the Ukrainian Air Force, the missiles used by Russia are primarily cruise missiles and are aimed at regions in northern, central, southern, and western Ukraine. Meanwhile, Russian forces destroyed more than 150 Ukrainian drones that attempted to carry out an attack overnight in the Black Sea region, the Moscow Defense Ministry announced on Tuesday. “During the night of February 17, air defense systems destroyed and intercepted 151 drones,” including 38 over Crimea, 50 over the Black Sea, and 29 over the neighboring Sea of ??Azov, the ministry stated, as reported by Russian news agencies. “It was one of the most prolonged recent attacks,” said Mikhail Razvozhayev, governor of Sevastopol, a major port on the Crimean Peninsula, annexed by Russia in 2014.

“Extraordinarily serious damage” to Ukrainian energy infrastructure

This morning's Russian attack caused “extraordinarily serious damage” to energy infrastructure in the city of Odessa, according to a statement from the facility's owner, DTEK.

“Repairs will take a long time before the equipment is back in operation,” the company said in a statement. DTEK's infrastructure in Odessa has been attacked multiple times in recent days.

Company specialists are working to restore electricity to critical infrastructure.

Since the beginning of the year, Russia has launched numerous massive attacks against the Ukrainian energy system, leaving millions of Ukrainians without electricity, heating, and running water for days this winter.

This latest attack comes just before the third round of trilateral talks between the US, Russia, and Ukraine begins in Geneva to seek an agreement to end the conflict.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said this weekend that one of the topics to be discussed at the meetings between Tuesday and Wednesday is the possibility of declaring a trick on energy attacks, similar to the one the Kremlin unilaterally declared at Washington's request on January 30.

Russia maintained that truce—which Ukraine immediately joined—for only four days.

Kyiv accuses Russia of disregarding peace efforts because Today's attack on Ukraine

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga has accused Russia of disregarding US-led peace efforts after the Russian military launched a massive attack early this morning, just hours before the start of a new round of talks in Geneva aimed at ending the war.

“To this extent, Russia disregards peace efforts: a massive missile and drone attack against Ukraine just before the next round of talks in Geneva,” Sibiga wrote in Russia.

“The blocking of the ghost fleet. The "Prohibition of maritime services. Entry ban for all participants in Russian aggression," the minister wrote.

Ukraine calls on Europe and the US to take stronger action against the so-called Russian ghost fleet, which consists of ships sailing under the flags of other countries to circumvent existing sanctions and export oil at prices exceeding the minimum threshold set by the G7.
