President Donald Trump's administration announced that, as of Thursday, it had gone 15 consecutive months without a single release at the border.
The office of Secretary of Homeland Security, Markwayne Mullin, indicated that daily apprehensions at the border have decreased 94% compared to former President Joe Biden's administration and are at the lowest level recorded in 30 years.
“For another month, the results are clear: President Trump's border security agenda is restoring order and prioritizing the safety of the American people,” Mullin said in a statement.
"The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) remains focused on enforcing our immigration laws, securing the border and ensuring the rapid deportation of those who enter the country illegally. Thanks to President Trump's strong leadership, we have the most secure border in history," he added.
Meanwhile, contraband seizures at the border during July were 26% higher than those recorded under the Biden administration, with cocaine, methamphetamine, heroin, fentanyl and marijuana seized.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) also contributed to the enforcement of Trump's tariff policies, identifying $23 billion in tariffs for collection in July alone.
“Clear policy, rigorous enforcement and dedicated staff on the front lines are delivering results at our borders,” CBP Commissioner Rodney Scott said in a statement.
"With the support of President Trump and Secretary Mullin, CBP is protecting our nation against illegal crossings, dangerous individuals and illicit drugs, while keeping legal trade and travel flowing. These results demonstrate what is possible when border security is considered a national priority," he added.
