The rules for international students entering the country with an F card will be drastically altered by the US government. The Department of Homeland Security ( DHS) will abolish the system that allowed them to study indefinitely for the entirety of their lives and establish a maximum admissions period of four years with the option of requesting an extension once it is approved.

Through the last rule, which established a fixed admissions and extension of stay for nonimmigrant scientific students, exchange visitors, and international media representatives, DHS published the action in the Federal Register. The organization stated that the goal is to create a consistent system to regulate the permanence of students in the nation.
