Mexico City authorities seized 59 homemade explosive devices during a search of a bus carrying students from the Ayotzinapa Rural Normal School and teachers heading to the country's capital to participate in protests.

The discovery occurred during a security operation carried out on the Mexico-Cuernavaca highway, after the authorities received a citizen complaint about possible risks in one of the vehicles that made up the convoy.

According to official information, elements of the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) inspected several transport units and located the explosive devices hidden in one of the buses.

After the discovery, personnel specialized in handling explosives proceeded to secure them to avoid risks to passengers and the population.

The authorities reported that the review was carried out peacefully and with the collaboration of the occupants of the units. Subsequently, the buses continued their journey to the country's capital.

The students and teachers were traveling to support the protests of the CNTE, an organization that maintains a series of mobilizations to demand, among other points, salary improvements and changes to the pension system.

The seizure of the explosives occurs in a context of high tension due to the teacher demonstrations in Mexico City.

Federal authorities reiterated the call for the protests to take place peacefully and within the legal framework, while the dialogue tables with representatives of the teaching profession continue.

So far there have been no reports of people arrested in relation to the discovery of the explosive devices, while investigations continue to determine their origin and possible use.
