Trump defends the agreement with Iran and assures that the US is respected like never before
The pact opens the way to a peace agreement, sanctions relief and dialogue on the Iranian nuclear program
The president of the United States, Donald Trump, defended the agreement with Iran to end the war and assured that his country now enjoys respect “like never before.”
"Oil flows, Iran will never be able to have a nuclear weapon (...). Our country is strong, safe and respected like never before," he declared in Truth Social.
The Republican thus responded to criticism from sectors of the Republican Party for the agreement reached with Iran, which seeks to end the conflict and unblock the Strait of Hormuz, one of the most important energy routes in the world.
The memorandum of understanding signed by Trump contemplates the immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, through which nearly 20% of the world's oil circulates, in addition to the lifting of the maritime blockade imposed on Iranian ports.
The agreement also establishes the cessation of hostilities on different conflict fronts, including Lebanon, where Israel maintains operations against Hezbollah, an ally of Tehran.
Likewise, the United States and Iran agreed to a 60-day deadline to negotiate a definitive peace agreement, which would include the Iranian nuclear program, possible sanctions relief and the release of frozen Iranian funds.
