A record 73% of Americans believe that President Donald Trump has not focused his administration on the country's most pressing problems, while support among Republicans fell to its lowest level, according to a CNN poll published this Wednesday.

The survey, carried out among 1,225 adults, shows that only 27% believe that the president has prioritized the right issues. The study is published in a context marked by the war with Iran, the increase in fuel prices and the rise in food prices.

In general terms, Trump's approval stood at 34%, equaling the historic low recorded at the close of his first presidential term (2017-2021), following the events that occurred at the Capitol after the 2020 elections.

Republicans also reduce their support

The survey also reveals that 50% of those surveyed strongly disapprove of the president's management, the highest level of rejection recorded during his administrations. At the same time, his firm approval fell to just 15%.

Among Republican voters themselves, support fell to 78%, the lowest figure for a politician who for years boasted solid support within his party. Likewise, only 19% of Republican supporters say they are excited about the rest of Trump's second term, down from 38% in the spring.

Economy and inflation weigh on public opinion

The worst results for the president appear in issues related to the economy and foreign policy. Only 28% approve of his handling of the conflict with Iran, while 25% support his strategy against inflation and just 21% support his actions to contain the price of gasoline.

In addition, 74% of Americans say that the increase in the cost of fuel has caused them economic difficulties, and 71% believe that the president has not done enough to reduce the prices of basic products.

At the international level, the survey also reflects a deterioration in the perception of the president: 62% of those surveyed consider that Donald Trump has not proven to be an effective world leader, an increase compared to the 54% registered at the beginning of his second term. According to CNN, these data show growing political wear and tear ahead of the upcoming midterm elections.
