According to an indictment filed Friday in Manhattan Federal District Court, a former DEA agent who spent many years overseeing the agency's financial operations has been accused of agreeing to launder millions of dollars in drug money for a Mexican cartel, specifically the Jalisco New Generation Cartel ( JJNG ).

According to the indictment, the former agent, Paul Campo, worked for the DEA for about 25 years, beginning as a special agent in New York before moving up to a top position as Office of Financial Operations deputy director.

According to the prosecution, he retired in January 2016 and now runs a private consulting company.

Mr. Campo agreed to dirty little more:$ 12 million in total, according to the indictment, and converted$ 750, 000 into bitcoin.

According to the indictment, he even paid for 220 pounds of cocaine assuming that the substance had been imported into the US.

The State Department has designated the Jalisco New Generation Cartel as a foreign terrorist business, and the prosecution states that it continues to carry out its drug trafficking activities through the use of violence and bribes from corrupt officials.

Another man, Robert Sensi, who is referred to as an affiliate of Mr. Campo, is also named in the prosecution.
