Immigration agents chose a car wash to carry out a raid in Los Angeles, after doing a Google search of the businesses closest to the place where they were deployed, as part of the first major immigration operation promoted by the Government of President Donald Trump.

New evidence before justice

The details of how the raids that occurred in June of last year in the Los Angeles metropolitan area were organized are part of new evidence presented by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) to a federal court in California, as part of a lawsuit that seeks to stop the operations.

The documents revealed that immigration agents used racial profiling through 'mobile patrols', which chose places at random.

"In these operations, the defendants (the immigration authorities) do not allege that the agents have a specific 'objective' of police action... Rather, the agents tour the communities in search of 'possible' suspects," states the motion to which EFE had access.

Google and targeting

The document contains testimony from a Border Patrol agent who described how agents chose the location for a June 18, 2025, raid at a car wash in Whittier, a city in Los Angeles County, using Google, according to the Los Angeles Times.

According to the agent, the team searched for nearby car washes on the search engine and the business was selected because “it was one of the places that was listed as the closest location.”

From the laundry room, the agents took one of the detainees leading the lawsuit, a US citizen of Latino origin, whom they held while they verified his legal status.

They accuse racial profiling

The new evidence includes body camera recordings in which officers are heard using racial slurs to refer to low-income or working-class people of Latino appearance that, according to the plaintiffs, reveal that operations ordered by President Donald Trump's administration have served as a pretext for arrests based on race.

The new evidence is part of a request to issue a precautionary measure on the operations that have multiplied in recent weeks in Latino neighborhoods of Los Angeles.
