Costco is planning to open 10 new stores during October and November 2026. The new branches will be distributed across nine states and are part of the company’s expansion strategy, which seeks to open between 25 and 30 warehouses during the year.
The major shopping club chain continues to expand its network while incorporating new products and services for its customers. Its business model is based on an annual membership that allows access to goods in large presentations, competitive prices and different benefits.
In addition to regular purchases, Costco has been characterized by offering free samples of products in its warehouses. Recently, the company also started delivering cake and bake for parties, while its food area incorporated chicken strips into its menu.
The first part of the calendar includes five new stores during October, with branches located in Missouri, Texas, New York, Kansas and California.
In Lee’s Summit, Missouri, Costco will open one of its new stores. The expansion will also reach The Colony, Texas, where the company will add another store to its network.
New York will have a new location in Amherst, while Kansas will receive a warehouse in Lawrence.
These five branches represent the first stage of the new opening that the company has planned for autumn.
Five more inaugurations are scheduled for November, with new locations in Idaho, California, Arizona, Virginia and Wisconsin.
Costco is scheduled to open a store in S. Meridian, Idaho, and another in Vallejo, California. In Arizona, the company will open a location in Chandler, although it will have a different format than a traditional warehouse.
Chandler’s store will be a Business Center, a concept specifically aimed at business owners and buyers looking for products for business activities.
The remaining two openings will be in Newport News, Virginia, and Franklin, Wisconsin. In this way, the autumn calendar is made up of five new stores in October and five in November, with presence in nine states.
The new U.S. branches are part of a growth project that covers more markets. Costco plans to open between 25 and 30 new warehouses in 2026, combining establishments in the United States with new international locations.
Gary Millerchip, Costco’s chief financial officer, explained in March that approximately half of the new branches envisaged for this year would be in the United States, while the other half would be located in international markets.
The strategy allows the company to expand its coverage and bring its wholesale shopping model closer to a greater number of consumers.
To buy at Costco you need to have a membership. The company offers three main options: Gold Star, Business and Executive.
Each modality has a different price and characteristics, so the choice depends on the buyer's profile and the use you intend to give the services of Costco.
The Gold Star membership costs $65 a year and is aimed at private consumers.
The owner can share the benefits of the membership with another person over the age of 18 who lives in the same home, so up to two adults from the same home can use it.
This option allows you to buy both in the physical stores and online, in addition to accessing the different benefits that Costco offers its members.
These include discounts and savings related to the company’s services, such as contact lenses, travel packages and gas stations, among other options.
Enterprise membership also costs $65 a year, but is designed for business owners.
Members can use it to purchase goods for commercial, personal or resale use. This allows business owners to use Costco as a supply option for their activities.
The owner can add a member from his home without additional cost. In case you need additional holders, Costco allows you to add them for $65 a year per person.
Due to its business character, to contract this membership you must present some type of commercial identification. Among the options is a commercial license, in addition to other forms of business identification accepted by the company.
Executive membership costs $130 a year and offers additional benefits over basic modalities.
This level includes two family cards and an annual reward of 2% on eligible purchases made at Costco.
The benefit can be relevant for customers who make frequent purchases, as the reward is calculated based on the cost that meets the requirements set by the company.
The membership also envisages greater savings on certain Costco services and selected Costco Travel packages.
For its price and features, the Executive mode is especially aimed at those who use Costco more frequently and can take advantage of the additional benefits it offers.
Consumers can consult Costco’s store locator to identify the nearest warehouse.
The tool allows you to perform a search using a city, state or postal code, so that users can know the branches available in a given area.
It can also serve those who live in the cities where the new opening is planned and want to identify the location of the establishment they will have available.
It should be remembered that membership is required to buy at Costco, a condition that also applies to the food area of the chain according to its rules for members.
With the new openings, Costco continues to strengthen a network of warehouses that constitutes a fundamental part of its business model.
The company combines the sale of products to the majority with an offer of services and benefits linked to its memberships. To this are added new products and prepared food options that seek to expand the variety available to customers.
Costco’s 10 openings scheduled for autumn will allow it to reach new consumers in nine states, while its overall growth plan includes between 25 and 30 new warehouses during 2026 in the United States and other international markets.
For consumers who will have a new branch nearby, the arrival of Costco will represent an additional alternative to make product purchases in large presentations, access the company’s services and take advantage of the benefits associated with the different memberships.
