The BMW Z4 said goodbye to the production lines, but its story still had a final page to write. Bovensiepen Automobile decided to take the final units of the German roadster and transform them into a much more exclusive sports car, with just 99 copies manufactured by hand.

The project is named Bovensiepen Spider and is part of the Z4 M40i.

The company modified the engine, suspension, structure and different components of the car to give it its own character.
The body retains the proportions that have always distinguished the Z4, with the long cap, the delayed cab and a configuration designed to enjoy driving in the open air.
The design was revised with designer Frank Stephenson, known for participating in projects such as the modern MINI. The intention was to preserve the essence of the BMW, but to give the Spider a more exclusive appearance and linked to the tradition of Bovensiepen.
They also highlight the 20-inch forged tyres, whose design inevitably reminds the models that for years were associated with Alpina.
Under the hood remains the BMW B58 engine, a 3.0-litre, six-cylinder turbocharged line. Bovensiepen intervened the admission and escape system to carry it up to 435 horsepower and 428 pound-foot torque.
They are 53 horsepower and 59 extra pounds-foot compared to the conventional Z4 M40i. The exhaust was also revised to improve gas flow and give the engine a stronger response.
With this preparation, the Spider can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 4.2 seconds and reach 162 mph, equivalent to 260 km/h. Those who want even more can opt for the Performance package, which raises the maximum speed up to 183 mph, about 295 km/h.
The car received specific adjustments on the suspension and new elements aimed at increasing stiffness and improving response when driving at a high rate.
Among the modifications is a V bar to reinforce the bottom of the structure and a new aluminum cap for the rear differential, with larger cooling wings.
The amortizers were also recalibrated, especially in their behavior during low-speed compression. In the rear axis, longer auxiliary walls were added to a more direct connection between the chassis and the road.
The intention is clear, improving precision without turning the Spider into a sports car impossible to enjoy outside a circuit.
Bovensiepen is the new name of the family company that stood behind Alpina, a brand BMW acquired in 2022.
After that operation, the company went to work under the name Bovensiepen and began a new stage with its own models. The company alsoins support for vehicles manufactured under the old identity until the end of 2025.
The Spider represents precisely that transition.It takes a well-known BMW, transforms it deeply and makes it a much more exclusive creation.
The production will be limited to 99 units and each will be hand-made. Therefore, rather than seeking to compete in volume with other sports, Bovensiepen points directly to collectors and fans who want a hard-to-repeat roadster.
The initial price will be $134,000. For a Z4 that has already gone out of production, the proposal represents a rather special farewell. BMW closed the history of the model, but Bovensiepen found the way to give it a few more kilometers before the name definitively disappeared from the roads.
