Immigrant is run over and killed while trying to escape an ICE operation in Florida
A third immigrant lost his life in another ICE operation and the federal agency is once again under the scrutiny of human rights defenders
While trying to escape from a detention operation by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Service (ICE) carried out in Florida, an immigrant was run over on a highway and minutes later lost his life.
The Miami Herald newspaper reported that the incident occurred this Tuesday in San Agustín, a town located in northeastern Florida.
Presumably, upon realizing that the ICE agents were trying to stop him, the designated person started running without noticing that, when crossing the road, a trailer was traveling at high speed and ended up being run over several meters.
Through a brief statement issued by the highway patrol, it is mentioned that the tragic incident occurred around 6:40.
During an interview with CNN, Dylan Bryan, police sergeant, mentioned that four occupants of a vehicle fled on foot when they realized the presence of ICE and one of them ran across State Highway 16 where he lost his life in a matter of seconds.
So far, neither ICE nor the Department of Homeland Security have revealed the identity of the immigrant or his nationality. However, his death once again generates controversy around the strategy of continuing with the order issued by President Donald Trump to carry out the largest deportation in history.
The death of the aforementioned foreigner lacking legal status represents the third in a week linked to actions by the federal agency.
Previously. the Mexican Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, and the Colombian Joan Sebastián Guerrero also lost in separate operations in both Texas and Maine.
This caused ICE to temporarily suspend its traffic controls as revealed, under the condition of keeping its identity safe, by sources consulted by various media outlets.
Several human rights organizations have raised their voices demanding greater empathy with foreigners lacking legal status.
