Trespassing Complaint in Rural Area

The incident occurred in November in the Linville community of Marion, in Union Parish, when sheriff's deputies responded to a trespassing call. A resident reported that a woman was on their driveway, yelling and refusing to leave the property despite having been previously warned.

Upon arriving at the scene, a patrol deputy found the suspect completely naked, swimming in a pond located on the complainant's property, according to the Union Parish Sheriff's Office.

The woman was identified as 41-year-old Erin Elizabeth Sutton, a resident of Marion. According to the official report, Sutton initially refused to get out of the water or speak with the officer, claiming she was “trying to be a mermaid.” After repeated orders, she finally got out of the pond. Due to the low temperatures, the officers requested emergency medical services to assess her condition. Confrontation with the officer: Authorities indicated that Sutton was given a blanket, and when the officer attempted to escort her inside a residence to protect her from the cold, she lunged at him. According to the sheriff's report, the woman ignored multiple orders, resisted arrest, and was struck with a Taser, which had no effect. She was then subdued on the ground, where she allegedly kicked and punched the officer before being restrained.

Threats During Transport and Court Charges

Sutton was transported to a hospital for medical treatment. During the journey, she threatened to kill officers and paramedics, according to authorities.

Because she required immediate medical attention, officers subsequently requested arrest warrants, which were approved by a judge in Louisiana's Third Judicial District.

The woman surrendered to authorities on January 6, 2025, and was arrested on multiple charges, including: three counts of resisting an officer with force or violence, two counts of public intimidation, two counts of assaulting a police officer, disorderly conduct/public intoxication, and unlawful entry.

Bail was set at $62,000, authorities reported.
