The head of the National Police of Peru, Óscar Arriola, confirmed the signing of an agreement with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) of the United States to strengthen the fight against transnational crime.
Arriola said that the agreement was signed about three months ago, during the transitional government chaired by José María Balcázar, to undertake strategies against crime “that has no borders.”
Without offering further details, he announced that the Minister of the Interior, César Astudillo, will meet this Thursday with the US ambassador to Peru, Bernie Navarro, to address these strategies, aimed at dismantling the foreign gangs operating in the Andean country.

The agreement includes the contribution of technology, logistics, specialized training and high-level professional assistance from the United States, “consolidating an alliance based on shared values ​​and tangible results for the security of Peruvian and American citizens.”
The United States announced on July 29 an expansion of its cooperation with Peru after the arrival to power of Keiko Fujimori, in a new sign of rapprochement of the Donald Trump administration with right-wing governments in Latin America, with emphasis on security, combating organized crime and defense of common interests.
Washington also announced assistance to strengthen border and prison control through biometric tools, the donation of explosives detection equipment for the Jorge Chávez international airport and the strengthening of specialized units of the PNP with support from the FBI and other US agencies.
