The United States government announced a reward of 25 million dollars for information leading to the capture of Juan Carlos Valencia González, alias “El 03” or “El Pelón”, identified by US authorities as the new leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG).
According to US authorities, Juan Carlos Valencia assumed a leadership role within the CJNG and is considered one of the main people responsible for the organization's international operations, which is why the State Department raised the reward for information leading to his capture.
With this amount, Valencia becomes the Mexican drug trafficker for whom Washington offers the highest current reward, exceeding the amounts that in previous years were assigned to other organized crime leaders such as Rafael Caro Quintero, for whom 20 million dollars were offered, or Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada (15 million dollars).
This is how rewards have evolved
Until early 2026, the United States government maintained as its main targets Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, alias “El Mencho”, for whom it offered 15 million dollars, as well as Jesús Alfredo Guzmán Salazar, known as “El Alfredillo”, a member of Los Chapitos, with a reward of 10 million dollars.
Other Mexican drug trafficking leaders also appeared with rewards of between $5 and $10 million, according to the State Department's Narcotics Rewards Program.
The increase in rewards comes in addition to other actions taken by the United States against the CJNG, including federal indictments, economic sanctions and visa restrictions against alleged collaborators of the organization.
US authorities indicated that the strategy seeks to weaken both the leadership and the financial structure of the criminal group, which they consider one of the main organizations responsible for trafficking fentanyl and other drugs into US territory.
