The defense of U.S. interests was moved to space after it was revealed that it already has a weapon put into orbit, which can be activated to respond to national security threats.
When invited as one of the speakers at the annual conference on air, space and cybersecurity held in National Harbor, Maryland, Air Force Secretary Troy Meink announced that the U.S. government has launched a weapon intended to operate from the ground if necessary.
“We continue to make sure we are prepared to face the challenges of constantly evolving threats, wherever they arise. Therefore, the United States now has space control weapons in orbit capable of defending the joint force against hostile actions of adversaries.
It is of vital importance that we maintain our dominance not only in the air, but also in space,” the official said without specifying the characteristics of the weapon in question or when it was launched into space.
According to the Washington Post, an official consulted on condition of keeping his identity safe describes the new U.S. weapon as the best resource to destroy any type of satellite detected as threatening the military activities or the militia satellites.
Prior to the statement of the Air Force chief, it was known that the governments of China and Russia were in the stage of testing another type of weapons focused on affecting and even destroying satellites of nations considered hostile to their interests.
However, in Washington they praise the fact of allegedly retaking the lead in the race to extend American supremacy beyond the borders of the earth to move it into planetary orbit.
Towards the end of last month, President Donald Trump signed an order to create the U.S. Space Academy whose goal is for the nation to have a Space Force.
“We need to educate and train a whole generation of skilled military personnel, engineers, civilian workers and other skilled personnel.
This is something that excites me tremendously, given the rapid growth of the space force and the commercial space industry, and the expansion of our ambitions toward the moon and far beyond,” he said before signing the document.
