Major Andres Tamayo, police chief of Santa Elena, indicated that they presume it could be the same young men, since two burned motorcycles were also found in the area, according to EFE. However, the families of the missing men will have to wait for several tests to be carried out to determine if they are their loved ones, because, according to Tamayo, the bodies "are already in a state of decomposition and have also been burned alive".
Santa Elena is one of the nine provinces under a state of emergency decreed by President Daniel Noboa on December 31st due to the increase in violence.
