After Dolly Parton’s death at the age of 80 due to cancer, a singular detail about her musical legacy came to light: the existence of an unprecedented song titled “My Place in History”, which was recorded with the condition of remaining secret until within two decades.

Since then, the theme rests within a wooden box of American chestnut called “Dream Box”, exhibited in the lobby of the resort itself. The structure has a golden plaque that clearly indicates that the content should not be revealed until January 19, 2046, the date the artist would have turned 100 years old.

According to the plaque, the box also pays tribute to his uncle and mentor, Bill Owens, who dedicated years to preserving the American chestnut tree. Over time, the existence of this hidden theme caused concern in the artist herself. In his 2020 book, “Dolly Parton, Songteller: My Life in Lyrics,” he confessed among laughter his uncertainty about the longevity of the technological format.

“There’s no way to know what the music will be like then.Fortunately, it will sound and the whole box won’t have rotten up,” he said at the time.

Subsequently, in 2022, during a television interview on The Kelly Clarkson Show, the singer joked about the desires she had to “descape it,” assuring it was an excellent quality song, but expressing some concern for whether the material deteriorated before its opening.

For now, the exact content and melody of “My Place in History” remain a hidden mystery that only Parton knew.
