Russian President Vladimir Putin stated on Thursday that Iran has made genuine efforts to bring an end to the conflict with the United States, following a meeting with Iranian President Masud Pezeshkian. Putin emphasized that Russia is prepared to utilize all available means to facilitate a resolution to the situation. Additionally, Putin noted that Iran has submitted a new proposal aimed at resolving the conflict through peaceful means.

Russian President Vladimir Putin stated at the outset of a meeting in Avaza, Turkmenistan, that Iran is actively working to resolve the ongoing conflict. The meeting took place prior to a summit of leaders from the post-Soviet Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). Additionally, Putin extended his greetings to Iran's supreme leader, Mojtaba Jamenei, through the Iranian representative, Pezeshkian.

The Kremlin leader has strongly denounced the airstrike assassination of former Iranian leader Ali Jamenei, and also views as a significant error the March killing of Iran's national security chief, Ali Lariyani, who was seen as a pragmatic figure capable of making concessions. The Kremlin leader and Pezeshkian had recently met in Kyrgyzstan, approximately a month prior to this statement.

Iran's leader expressed confidence that the country has not abandoned negotiations with the United States, despite ongoing tensions. In a statement, he emphasized Iran's commitment to finding a swift resolution to the conflict, but noted that progress would be difficult to achieve if the US maintains its current stance.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has noted a significant improvement in relations between Russia and Iran, which have intensified their diplomatic and military cooperation since the beginning of the large-scale conflict in Ukraine in February 2022. Ukraine and Western nations have accused Iran of providing Russia with Shahed drones and short-range missiles, which have been used against Ukrainian territory.

Russia has been implicated in allegations that it shared intelligence data with Iran, which was subsequently used in attacks against U.S. interests in the Middle East.
