After being found guilty of sexually assaulting Miriam Haley, an ex-producer of the present Project Runway, at a 2006 occurrence, the falling Hollywood mogul, Harvey Weinstein, was sentenced on Wednesday to 15 years in prison in New York.
The ruling, dictated by state Supreme Court Judge Curtis Farber, puts an end to the second trial against the former Miramax founder for these charges, after an appeal court annulled in 2024 the initial 23 year sentence imposed on him in 2020.
The Manhattan Prosecutor's Office had requested a 20-year jail sentence and five years of pending care at the hearing. The offense, which was a class B criminal, had a maximum sentence of 25 years.
Miriam Haley testified in front of the jury before the ruling, describing the agonizing segments she has endured since the assault that occurred in Weinstein's apartment in Manhattan ten years ago.
Haley assured the court that participating in the legal process had forced her to sit with concern for years, saying," For me, it's a lifestyle sentence. "
Weinstein, 74, for his part, spoke up during the session to express his" sorrow" over the allegations, stating that he had never raped anyone or carried out any illegal acts. His legitimate team confirmed that it will file an appeal following the court's decision.
The ex-producer's sophisticated legal situation includes this test in New York. Weinstein is also facing a 16-year prison sentence for the 2013 sexual assault case involving the European model Evgeniya Chernyshova, as well as the 15-year Manhattan tax.
