California lawmakers propose changes to vote counting system
A proposed bill seeks to process 90% of ballots within three days after the close of voting
California legislators held a discussion about the primary election vote counting system, after the controversy that occurred since the night of Tuesday, June 2, due to the delay in knowing the results.
Under California law, mail-in ballots that are postmarked by Election Day and received up to one week after the vote are allowed to be counted.
Counties then have 13 days to count most ballots and one month to certify local results.
