Sean 'Diddy' Combs reportedly requested a presidential pardon from the President of the United States, Donald Trump, but all indications are that this possibility is far from being realized. According to an exclusive report published by The New York Times on Thursday, January 8, the president stated that he has no intention of intervening on behalf of the music producer, who is currently incarcerated. According to the newspaper, Trump confirmed that Combs formally requested a presidential pardon in a letter. “He asked me for a pardon,” the 79-year-old president told Times reporters, though he declined to show the document when asked about it. The White House later confirmed to People magazine that the comments attributed to Trump were accurate. Sean Combs' spokesperson declined to comment on the matter, the magazine reported. The 56-year-old Bad Boy Records founder was found guilty in July on two prostitution-related charges and, in October, sentenced to 50 months in prison after a high-profile federal trial in New York. He had previously been acquitted of more serious charges, including sex trafficking and conspiracy to commit racketeering. Is a pardon possible?

This is not the first time the possibility of a pardon has been raised publicly. In May 2015, during a press conference cited by ABC News, Trump was asked if he would consider pardoning Combs.

At that time, he responded that he had not spoken to him in years and that he would evaluate the facts "if I think someone was wrong," regardless of personal affinities.

Trump also acknowledged that he had a close relationship with Combs in the past, describing him as "a very good friend" and recalling joint appearances at events since the late 1990s.

However, he claimed that the bond deteriorated when he decided to run for president in 2016, alleging that Combs made hostile comments against him during that period.

Currently, Sean 'Diddy' Combs has approximately three more years to serve in prison, after receiving credit for time already served.

According to records from the Federal Bureau of Prisons, his estimated release date is set for May 25, 2028. For now, and according to the president's own words, a presidential pardon does not appear to be on the horizon.
