Governor DeSantis Designates Muslim Group as Terrorist Organization
The order instructs agencies to prevent the groups from receiving contracts, employment, and funds from executive agencies or the state cabinet
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed an executive order designating the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), a civil rights and advocacy group, as a foreign terrorist organization.
The Florida executive order also designates the Muslim Brotherhood as a foreign terrorist organization. The Republican is implementing the measure after Texas Governor Greg Abbott issued a similar declaration in November.
Prohibit them from receiving contracts, employment, and funds
The order instructs Florida agencies to prevent the two groups and those who have provided them with material support from receiving contracts, employment, and funds from any executive agency or the state cabinet, The Associated Press reported.
CAIR Department of Government Affairs Director Robert S. McCaw left a message on X regarding the governor's decision.
“Ron DeSantis has a long history of close collaboration with anti-Muslim hate groups and Israeli government officials who have spent years trying to silence Americans who stand up for the human rights of Palestinians.”
There is a similar initiative in Texas
“The people of Florida have a right to know if Governor DeSantis collaborated with a foreign government or hate groups to launch his “This is an unconstitutional and defamatory attack against CAIR-Florida and the constitutional rights guaranteed to all Floridians,” McCaw said. Last month, CAIR asked a federal judge to invalidate Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s proclamation, stating in a lawsuit that it “not only violated the United States Constitution, but also finds no support in any Texas law.”
