Karoline Leavitt will leave her position as White House press secretary at the end of August, but her departure does not mean a departure from Donald Trump. The president announced that the young spokesperson will become one of his main external advisors, with a role that will also have political weight heading into the midterm elections.
Trump made the announcement this Wednesday through Truth Social, where he highlighted the relationship of trust he maintains with Leavitt and praised his work during his second term.
“Our wonderful White House Press Secretary, and one of my most trusted advisors, Karoline Leavitt, will be leaving her position at the end of the month so she can spend more time with her precious young children and family,” the president wrote.
Leavitt prioritizes his family
Leavitt explained via X that his decision to leave the White House is primarily related to his desire to be more present for his two children. The Press Secretary stated that, after returning to work after the birth of her daughter, she began to feel that she could not dedicate the time and attention to her family that she considers necessary while holding one of the most demanding positions in the administration.
The official described her departure as a “bittersweet” decision and assured that this new stage does not mean moving away from Trump or his political agenda. On the contrary, the president asked her to continue as a senior advisor from outside the White House. Leavitt also made it clear that she will continue to defend the MAGA movement and the Republican Party, although now from a different position and with more space to attend to her family life.
Trump has not yet defined his replacement
For now, the administration has not said who will fill the press secretary role after Leavitt's departure or who might temporarily assume his duties.
Leavitt came to office on January 20, 2025, at the beginning of Trump's second term, and then became the youngest person, at 28, to hold the position.
