Support for Donald Trump falls again and this time it hits a particularly sensitive point: barely 33% of Americans approve of his management, according to the most recent survey by The Economist/YouGov.

The result represents a three-point drop from the previous week and, according to YouGov, is the lowest level of approval recorded for Trump since he returned to the White House in 2025.

The survey, conducted between August 7 and 10 of 1,589 American adults, also reveals a complicated picture for the president. 60% of respondents consider Trump to be dishonest and untrustworthy, while 65% believe that the United States is on the wrong path.

Trump also faces doubts about his leadership

The negative perception is not limited to its overall performance. 53% of Americans consider that Trump, 80, is too old to hold the Presidency.

In addition, 61% believe that he uses the position for personal gain and 55% believe that he is using the Department of Justice to persecute his political enemies.

The new ballroom project in the East Wing of the White House also does not have majority support: 57% of those surveyed oppose the initiative.

The electoral scenario does not look comfortable for the Republicans either.

Democrats take advantage heading into November

According to The Economist/YouGov, Democrats lead Republicans by 8 points in the so-called generic ballot for Congress.

Other recent polls show a similar trend. A Reuters/Ipsos measure, released Aug. 3, put Democrats five points ahead among registered voters.

Trump, however, has rejected the idea that his base is turning away from him. In an interview with Punchbowl News, he said: “They are angry at the Republicans, but not at me.”

The president also defended his electoral strength by pointing out: “I have good results in many states.”

With the midterm elections getting closer, the 33% approval rating represents a warning sign for Trump and his party. The big question will be whether the president can make up ground before November or whether Democrats will be able to convert discontent into votes.
