Trump rules out withdrawing US troops from Iran until the mission is completed
The US president rejected that the military contingent that is carrying out work in Iran is in a risk situation
The president of the United States, Donald Trump, assured that he does not plan to withdraw the approximately 50,000 soldiers deployed in the context of the conflict against Iran until a definitive "conclusion" has been reached in the region.
The US president rejected in an interview with the NBC network recorded on Friday and broadcast this Sunday that the military contingent is in a risk situation.
"I don't consider (the troops) to be in danger. We have the best defense and the best offense that has ever been seen," Trump said.
The president described a possible withdrawal at this time as “senseless” because perhaps the US will have to “use” the troops.
To date, the official toll of the conflict amounts to 13 US service members who have died in incidents directly linked to the hostilities. "We've lost 13 people here and that's a lot. Thirteen people are too many," Trump admitted.
However, the president clarified that "if you look at Vietnam, where hundreds of thousands of people died, or any of the last seven or eight wars (...), we lost 13. It is less than anyone would have imagined."
On March 1, six soldiers lost their lives after an Iranian attack against the port of Shuaiba, in Kuwait. Later, on March 8, another soldier died as a result of an offensive by Tehran against the Prince Sultan air base in Saudi Arabia.
The last incident occurred on March 12, when six soldiers died when a US Air Force KC-135 Stratotanker refueling plane crashed in western Iraq. EFE
