The streets of downtown Los Angeles, California, were the route followed by a march organized this Saturday by people demanding an end to the mass deportation of immigrants ordered by President Donald Trump.

The highlight of the event is that during the journey some of the participants carried small black cardboard coffins in memory of foreigners lacking legal status who have lost their lives during an operation by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Service (ICE).

The demonstration in solidarity with the families of the deceased was named "Justice for Lorenzo. Justice for Johan. Justice for all. Abolish ICE."

The names of the immigrants mentioned refer to the cases of the Mexican Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, and the Colombian Joan Sebastián Durán Guerrero, who lost their lives in ICE operations carried out separately in both Texas and Maine.

Regarding the first, he was the owner of a construction company and an ICE officer allegedly shot him to avoid being hit by the truck he was driving.

The immigrant allegedly refused to stop during a traffic stop carried out on July 7 around 7 am in Houston, Texas.

Regarding the case of the South American Joan Sebastián, he was 26 years old and died on July 13 after an ICE agent shot him during a detention operation related to a final deportation order.

Demanding greater empathy with foreigners lacking legal status, immigrant rights organizations and religious groups called on citizens to take to the streets of Los Angeles in protest of the conduct assumed by immigration authorities when carrying out the federal government's order to carry out the largest deportation of immigrants in history.

The funeral performance that passed in front of Los Angeles City Hall included names of the 53 immigrants who died in ICE custody since Trump took office for the second time.

"We must come together to defend ourselves and honor immigrant workers and day laborers, who endure the worst of anti-immigrant hate while building our communities and defending human rights. Today we gather to mourn their loss and demand an end to ICE's reign of terror," Erika Andiola, political director of the National Day Labor Network (NDLON), told several media representatives.
