When everything is ready for the return to the ring of Mexican boxer Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez, challenges continue to appear for him to win the WBC super middleweight belt held by Frenchman Christian Mbilli.

In this sense, boxer Janibek Alimkhanuly plans a fight against Canelo Álvarez at 169 pounds, having his aspirations quite clear at this moment.

The athlete from Kazakhstan seeks the World Boxing Organization championship. His plan includes a unification match against the Mexican boxer next year.

The panorama of the championships

Currently, Canelo Álvarez lacks belts in this weight class. Alimkhanuly suggests that the athlete from Mexico will beat Christian Mbilli in his turn. For his part, he plans to defeat Hamzah Sheeraz to obtain the crown.

The challenger used his X account to send a message to Canelo Álvarez. In the publication, the athlete indicated that he will win his commitment to Sheeraz. He also signaled his intentions to unify the titles against the boxer from Jalisco.

The dates of the fights

Alimkhanuly has 20 days to finalize negotiations for the lawsuit with Sheeraz. Otherwise, the process will go to an auction between the promoting companies. Reports indicate that the card will occur at the end of the year or early 2027.

On the other hand, Canelo Álvarez will enter the ring on October 31 in Saudi Arabia. In that event, he will contest the World Boxing Council championship against Mbilli. This performance had a start date of September 12 before being rescheduled.

The World Boxing Organization named Alimkhanuly as its official challenger at 168 pounds. The athlete gave up his championship and previously lost an International Boxing Federation title. This decision last March occurred due to a case of doping in their tests.

The development of unification depends on the results of the commitments of both athletes. If Canelo Álvarez achieves victory in October, he will make the decision on his next opponent. The decision will fall to the boxer's team to accept or reject Alimkhanuly's challenge.
