Javier “Chicharito” Hernández will return to professional activity as a soccer player after several months away from the fields. The Mexican forward was announced as the flagship player of Atlético Dallas, a franchise that will debut in the United Soccer League (USL) Championship in the 2027 season and that seeks to build its project around the all-time top scorer of the Mexican National Team.

With this move, Hernández will begin a new stage in the United States, the country where he currently resides and where he previously defended the colors of the LA Galaxy in Major League Soccer (MLS). His return as a player occurs after finishing his second stage with Chivas de Guadalajara in December 2025.

Atlético Dallas bets on an international figure for its project

Although Atlético Dallas will play its first official season until 2027, the organization has been developing its sports structure for more than two years since it was presented. The club also confirmed Peter Luccin, a former French footballer with experience in European teams, including Atlético de Madrid, as coach. After concluding his career as a player at FC Dallas, he directed the youth ranks of that institution and later took over the first team on an interim basis during the 2024 season.

The USL Championship, a competition in which Atlético Dallas will participate, operates independently of the MLS. In addition, it maintains the goal of becoming the first professional soccer league in the United States with a promotion and relegation system, scheduled to be implemented from 2028.

The new challenge expands a career that began with Chivas in 2006 and that later took him to some of the most important clubs in European football.

In the United States, before his time at Chivas, he became one of the figures of the LA Galaxy, with 39 goals in 83 games and the record for most goals for the club in a single season.
