The former president of the Eldense, Carolina Holguín, issued a statement on Thursday after announcing the club that it will no longer exercise as the club’s top leader who milits in LaLiga Hypermotion (Segunda División Española), in which it assumed the sale of the club to Argentine footballer Lionel Messi.

“I leave it in the best hands,” said the Colombian board, which asked the world champion with Argentina in Qatar 2022 to care and respect what the Eldense means to “his people” and said that the future of the club “can be extraordinary.”

“Eldense begins a new stage in the hand of Lionel Messi, for me the greatest living legend of world football,” he said. “To be able to deliver him today the witness of this club is an enormous pride and above all it gives me the tranquility that I leave him in the best hands.”

The directive recalled that it is an entity “with more than a hundred years of history (today it is 105), with a city behind it that lives, suffers and loves it” and made a petition to Messi. “Take care of him, respect what he means to his people and, above all, bring great dreams to Elda (South-East Spain). I’m sure the coming can be extraordinary,” he added.

Similarly, the Eldense’s “blaugrana family” was asked to receive him as he claimed they know how to do it. “Make that from the first day you feel what the (Club) Deportivo (Eldense) means, what this hobby means and what Elda means,” he said.

Holguín reviewed the year he has been at the head of the entity after acquiring his shares to Pascual Pérez and said that he came to “sum, add value and build a solid project, able to look at the future with ambition because ‘the goal is the sky’”.

She said she felt “a tremendous pride and profound gratitude,” although she said the journey “has not been easy” and that she had to make “difficult, complex and in several occasions rather unpopular decisions.”

“These decisions, even the most difficult ones, led us here,” said Holguín, who showed his satisfaction with the rise of the women’s team, the branch and the first team, which returns to military at LaLiga Hypermotion and thanked those who “sudged the shirt” to make them possible, as well as the technicians, fans and the institutions and companies that support the club.

“To my detractors, I also have something to say. His doubts and criticism, far from stopping me, made me work with more strength than ever. They forced me to overcome myself, to defend my convictions, to blind the club and to prove, once again, what I am capable of and what I am made of,” she said.

Holguín said he did not want to say goodbye without sending two messages. “To the women of Elda: believe in their strength and occupy their spaces with courage. Don’t let anyone tell you how far you can get,” he said. “And to the girls and children of our canteen and of this city, that they never cease to dream. Pursue your goals with your heart, persevere when others doubt,” he advised them.
