Prior to the start of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the United States government updated its travel recommendations for Mexico and released a map with warning levels for each entity, with the aim of guiding fans who plan to attend the tournament in that country.

According to information released by the United States Embassy in Mexico, the country maintains a general Level 2 alert, which implies the recommendation of “extreme precautions” due to factors such as crime, kidnappings and other security risks.

In the case of the three Mexican venues for the 2026 World Cup, Mexico City and Nuevo León were classified as Level 2, while Jalisco received a Level 3 warning, a category that recommends travelers reconsider their visit.

The update also identifies several entities with the highest levels of risk. States such as Sinaloa, Guerrero, Michoacán, Colima, Zacatecas and Tamaulipas appear under the “Do not travel” recommendation, corresponding to Level 4 of the US State Department alert system.

On the other hand, Campeche and Yucatán are the only Mexican states classified as Level 1, where it is only advisable to maintain the usual precautions.

The rest of the entities are distributed between levels 2 and 3, depending on the security conditions evaluated by the US authorities.

The United States Embassy urged fans who will travel to Mexico during the World Cup to consult in advance the current recommendations for each state and stay informed about local security conditions before and during their stay.

The 2026 World Cup will have Mexico City, Guadalajara and Monterrey as Mexican venues, making Mexico one of the three host countries along with the United States and Canada.
