The NBA has already defined two of the most anticipated dates of the 2026-27 season and the Los Angeles Lakers appear in the center of both. The Los Angeles team will open its calendar on October 21 against the Golden State Warriors and, a little more than two months later, will receive LeBron James at the Crypto Arena during the traditional Christmas day.

The league confirmed this Tuesday part of the official programming for the new season, including the opening games and the complete Christmas Day lineup.

The debut of LeBron James with Philadelphia will be one of the main attractions of the start of the season. The 76ers will visit the New York Knicks on October 20 at Madison Square Garden, a duel between James' new team and the reigning NBA champion.

That first day will also feature the visit of the Boston Celtics to the Detroit Pistons and the confrontation between the San Antonio Spurs and the Oklahoma City Thunder, a repeat of the most recent Western Conference final.

James will have a second date full of symbolism just two days later. On October 22 he will play for the first time at home with Philadelphia against the Cleveland Cavaliers, the franchise in which he debuted in 2003 and with which he won the 2016 championship.

The Lakers will open a new project against Golden State

The Lakers' premiere was scheduled for Wednesday, October 21 at 10:00 p.m. ET against the Warriors. It will be one of the star matches of the second day of competition.

That same day, the match between the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Miami Heat will also be played, a team that will have Giannis Antetokounmpo at the start of the campaign.

The clash against Golden State will mark the beginning of a new stage for the Los Angeles franchise, which will face the season without LeBron James and with other sports leadership within the organization.

Christmas with 12 hours of basketball

The NBA will keep intact its Christmas tradition, in force since 1947. The December 25 schedule will include five consecutive games and more than twelve uninterrupted hours of action.

The day will begin in New York with a reissue of the last NBA Finals between the Knicks and Spurs.

Later, the Boston Celtics-Miami Heat will be played, a match that will have special attention due to the presence of Giannis Antetokounmpo in the Florida team.

The third game of the day will be LeBron James' return to Los Angeles. Philadelphia will visit the Lakers at the Crypto Arena, the setting where the forward played the previous eight seasons of his career.

After that match, the Minnesota Timberwolves and Oklahoma City Thunder will face each other, and the schedule will close with the duel between the Golden State Warriors and the Denver Nuggets.

With this programming, the NBA opted to bring together several of its main figures on the most popular dates on the calendar and turned the Lakers-76ers into one of the most attractive games of Christmas 2026.
