Mexico’s national team has already hosted one of its most important matches from the closing of 2026. The national team will play in the BBVA stadium of Monterrey the return match of the quarterfinals of the Concacaf League of Nations, scheduled for November 17.
The Mexican Football Federation (FMF) confirmed on Wednesday that the home of the Rayados will be the scene of the official match, which will also represent the return of the national team to Nuevo León after eight years.
The FMF that “Rayada will receive the national team of Mexico for the first time and will do so for an official game of the Nations League quarterfinals of Concacaf.”

The match will have a special significance for Rafael Márquez, as it will be the first time that the coach directs the Mexican national team on national territory since he took office.
Mexico got its direct qualifying to the quarter-finals of the Concacaf Nations League after finishing among the four best-ranked teams in the A League.
The rival of the Mexican team will be known after the FIFA dates of September and October, when the quarter-final phase is defined.
The duel on November 17 will also be the last match that the Mexican national team will play during 2026.
The change of headquarters has an explanation related to the Azteca Stadium calendar. Mexico City's property will not be available for this match because the NFL regular season match between the San Francisco 49ers and the Minnesota Vikings is scheduled for November 22.
For that reason, the BBVA stadium, home of the Monterrey Rayados, was chosen to receive the match back from the quarterfinals.
The Regiomontano property already has experience as the seat of major international meetings. During the past World Cup, it hosted four matches: three corresponding to the group stage and one of sixteen final matches.
In addition, the stadium received the repeat before that World Cup.
The return of the national team to Nuevo León will put an end to an eight-year absence. The Mexican Football Federation highlighted the relationship that the national team built with fans from different regions of the country during the past World Cup.
“This match will mark the return of the team to Nuevo León after eight years of absence, with which it seeks to strengthen the connection that the team achieved with the aficionados of all Mexico during the past World Cup,” the statement concluded.
