Given the complaints arising from alleged suicide attempts linked to members of the navy assigned to the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, their return to the United States was ordered after more than 260 days of not having touched land.
During the last few days, messages from alleged members of the US Navy were spread on social networks warning about attempts by people trying to jump into the sea from the side of the aircraft carrier in question due to the desperation of having not gone ashore for months and experiencing various extreme conditions on the high seas such as the lack of some provisions and even drinking water.
Because of this, Democrat Richard Blumenthal, in his capacity as a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, wrote a letter to Pete Hegseth, Secretary of Defense, and Hung Cao, Acting Secretary of the Navy, demanding clarification of what was happening on the imposing nuclear-powered ship parked in the Gulf of Oman.
"The Lincoln case is not an isolated case. Recent aircraft carrier deployments have repeatedly extended beyond their initially planned duration, suggesting that extended deployments may be becoming a feature, rather than an exception, of the Navy's force generation model," he said.
The response to the document took less than 24 hours to emerge following Hung Cao's announcement announcing the return of the USS Abraham Lincoln to US waters.
"The USS Abraham Lincoln successfully completed its deployment and will soon return home as part of a planned rotation. More details will be provided soon, but I want to make it clear that the safety of our sailors and Marines is always our priority," reads part of a statement.
The official emphasized that at all times the members of the navy were provided with what was necessary to withstand the inclemencies related to the mission to which they were assigned in this case to the war against Iran.
"Sailors and Marines are expected to do their best, and they always do. A leader's responsibility is to take care of his people to the best of his ability, while meeting mission requirements.
During this deployment we have seen both things: the work is being done and our leaders are taking care of their people,” he explained.
It was revealed that the aircraft carrier USS George Washington will relieve the USS Abraham Lincoln in the next few hours.
