The number of homeless people, both in the city and in much of Los Angeles County, registered an increase in 2026 compared to the previous year, impacting one of Mayor Karen Bass's priority programs in her fight against homelessness.
According to sources consulted by the Los Angeles Times, the homeless population increased by 7.9%, after a decrease was recorded in the previous two years.
The data published by The Times was provided by two people familiar with the figures presented by the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA) in closed-door briefings.
