An out-of-service Southern California Edison (SCE) transmission tower was the cause of the Eaton wildfire, which broke out on January 7, 2025, killing 19 people, the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) announced this Tuesday.

Nearly 19 months after one of the most devastating fires, the LAFD released one of its most anticipated reports, identifying the origin and cause of the Eaton Fire, which destroyed more than 9,000 buildings.

According to the document, the fire originated from an electrical failure in SCE's transmission towers, without mentioning an exact location. However, authorities said it was in Eaton Canyon.
