The Simpsons writer who anticipated Donald Trump's victory 16 years ago is running for president
Dan Greaney, screenwriter who anticipated Donald Trump's arrival to the presidency 16 years earlier, announced his candidacy with the aim of taking over from him in 2028
Dan Greaney, screenwriter in charge of writing the episode of The Simpsons where he anticipated the arrival of Donald Trump to the presidency of the United States 16 years before his victory on the ballot, launched his candidacy in search of the White House in 2028.
The imagination of the 61-year-old writer gained notoriety when he “predicted” in the episode titled “Bart to the Future” that the New York magnate would become the nation's president.
In fact, the screenwriter projects that Lisa Simpson would be the one who would inherit an economic disorder caused by the poor management of the Republican at the head of the government.
In the aforementioned episode, which was broadcast 16 years before Trump's presidency, Bart Simpson's older sister addresses her advisor and says: "As you know, we have inherited quite a budget crunch from President Trump."
Perhaps at that time, the majority of American viewers downplayed that detail, but when Trump won the elections, the animated television series once again consolidated itself due to the strange coincidence that arises when describing some events in advance as if it were a window into the future, since there are already several episodes where it addresses topics that end up becoming real events.
Part of this ability to anticipate the future lies in the ability of screenwriters like Dan Greaney, whose humor has been captured in the episodes of an animated series that clings to continue on the screen after 38 seasons on the air.
However, Greaney's ambitions to transcend point towards a higher point, in this case becoming president of the nation.
Through a video published on his Instagram account, where he first appears characterizing an alleged prophet, the writer attacks the two main people responsible for guiding the country from the White House, allegedly favoring the interests of the billionaires who emerged from technology companies.
“Trump, Vance, the billionaires, the careerists and the cowards of both parties have turned their backs on (the United States).
Money, power and security count for them, but not for you.
In the United States, the government is supposed to work for everyone. Democracy for all, accountability for all, prosperity for all. We must recover that. I would love to help, but I'm not a lawyer. I'm just a self-proclaimed prophet... who went to law school, graduated, passed the exam... Wait! Yes, I am a lawyer!” they are heard saying before taking off the costume they are wearing.
He then shows off a suit to formally launch his candidacy for the presidency in 2028.
"Bah, I can be a politician. I'm running for president. My program: an America for all. Let's do it," he emphasizes.
Through a statement, Greaney's campaign team addressed his campaign proposal in more detail.
“His program includes the restoration of democratic norms along with progressive policies such as universal healthcare and the Green New Deal, all unified under the central idea of building an America that works for everyone,” the document mentions.
