Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Tuesday he is ready to accept a truce on attacks on energy infrastructures if Moscow shows “will” to do the same.
“I am ready at any time, as long as all parties are ready. We are ready if they don’t attack our energy system,” Zelensky told the press in New York, where he participates in the UN General Assembly High Level Week.
The president said the United States would transfer this proposal to Russia: “If we really think of a ceasefire, then we must stop attacking energy systems.
Zelensky called for the involvement of the United States and Europe to get Russia to participate in negotiations and said his U.S. counterpart Donald Trump assured him hours earlier at a White House meeting that he would do “everything possible” to help end the conflict.
With Trump “we have talked about an energy moratorium,” Zelensky said.
“We don’t want to go into details (but) we are prepared for a moratorium (...) as long as they don’t attack our energy infrastructure, heating, electricity, or our water reserves,” he said.
However, Zelensky said he was unaware of Moscow’s position and expressed his hope that “the American side will find a way (...) to lead them to some sort of negotiation.”
On a possible three-party meeting, which Zelensky had previously proposed, the Ukrainian leader reiterated that he remains “ready” to meet with Russian Vladimir Putin.
So far, Trump has only said that Putin is willing to meet with him as he already did in Alaska in August 2025.
Zelensky also referred to the upcoming meeting between Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping, noting that he believes that the Chinese president has influence on Putin and that “all countries should work to end the war.”
“If we all want to end this war, we all have to work 24 hours a day for it,” he said.
In addition, he said Ukraine continues to ask for help from the United States to produce interceptor missiles for its Patriot systems, crucial to curbing Russian ballistic attacks in the face of the winter. Trump said today that such a request was “possible,” but did not provide further details.
