The Austin Police Department in Texas reported that an off-duty deputy with the Caldwell County Precinct 3 Sheriff's Office was shot and killed early Sunday morning at the Rodeo Club, north of the city.

According to authorities, the deputy He was working at a private security post when the shooting occurred. Austin officers responded to the scene shortly after 2:00 am and found the deputy in the parking lot of the establishment, suffering from serious gunshot wounds.

Died at hospital

The deputy was rushed to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries, the Caldwell County Sheriff's Office confirmed.

“One of our deputies, while working an off-duty security post at an Austin establishment, was involved in a shooting,” the agency said in a statement posted on social media.
