They are killing us: residents of a community in Guerrero cry out for help in the face of drug drone attacks
Through videos, residents reported detonations, shots from high-caliber weapons and the launching of explosive devices from drones.
Inhabitants of the Guajes de Ayala community, located in the Tierra Caliente region of Guerrero, requested the urgent intervention of federal authorities after reporting a series of attacks with drones allegedly loaded with explosives and armed confrontations that keep dozens of families sheltered and isolated.
According to testimonies released by the residents themselves, the attacks began in the early hours of Wednesday, when armed men allegedly linked to the criminal group La Familia Michoacana broke into the vicinity of the community.
Residents reported detonations, shots from high-caliber weapons, and the launching of explosive devices from drones, a situation that forced women, children, and older adults to take shelter in a clinic and other buildings.
In videos broadcast on social networks, women from the community launched a desperate call to President Claudia Sheinbaum and the Armed Forces to send help by air, stating that land routes remain blocked by armed men and that the population fears a larger incursion.
"They are killing us, please help us. We have been surrounded for several days and no one is coming," said one of the residents during a broadcast from the shelter.
The residents indicated that for more than two weeks they had warned the authorities about the presence of armed groups in the area and the risk of an attack, without, they say, receiving protection.
In addition to the risk of violence, they reported that they face shortages of food, medicine and medical care for injured people, which is why they requested the installation of a humanitarian corridor that would allow civilians to be evacuated and supplies to the community.
Likewise, the families called on national and international human rights organizations to document the situation and monitor the actions of the authorities, considering that the population lives in conditions of extreme vulnerability.
So far, federal and state authorities have reported that they would deploy elements to verify the situation and reinforce their presence in the region.
