A woman died inside her home in Texas after a Tesla car that was allegedly driving with an automated assistance system left the road and hit the residence.
The incident occurred around 8:00 pm on Friday in Katy, a town located in the Houston metropolitan area, according to the Harris County Sheriff's Office.
According to the preliminary investigation, Michael Butler was driving a Tesla Model 3 when the vehicle stopped staying within its lane, left the road and broke into a home.
The authorities indicated that the car entered at high speed through the brick structure of the house and hit M. Avila, who was inside the property.
The victim was taken by helicopter to a hospital, where he later died.
Research on the conduction system
The Sheriff's Office noted that Butler was operating the vehicle with an automated driver assistance system at the time of the crash.
Until now, authorities have not specified what function was activated or if the system had any direct relationship with the crash.
Tesla uses driver assistance technologies that require constant human supervision and are not a substitute for the driver's control of the vehicle.
Investigators noted that Butler suffered injuries, but showed no signs of intoxication and is cooperating with authorities.
