Kristen Stewart, the actress who rose to fame playing Bella Swan in the 'Twilight' saga, has openly expressed her desire to direct a new version of the iconic vampire film series. The statement was made during her participation in Variety's "10 Directors to Watch" event, held on January 4 in Palm Springs, California, where she was recognized for her directorial debut with 'The Chronology of Water' (2025). "I would love to... Look, I love what Catherine [Hardwicke] did, I love what Chris [Weitz] did, I love what all the directors did with the films," said Stewart, 35, when asked about the possibility by Entertainment Tonight. “They were so themselves, so quirky and so present in that era when they didn't yet know what they were, like before they exploded.”

With enthusiasm and conviction, she added: “Imagine if we had a huge budget and so much love and support. I don't know, I would love to adapt. Yes, of course, I'll do the remake. I will! I'm committed!”

From Star to Director

Stewart achieved worldwide fame starring in the five films of the Twilight saga (2008-2012), based on the novels by Stephenie Meyer and co-starring Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner, among others. The franchise has featured several directors: Catherine Hardwicke in the first installment, Chris Weitz in New Moon, David Slade in Eclipse, and Bill Condon in Breaking Dawn. Recently, in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Stewart reflected on the complexity of directing a production of such magnitude, praising Hardwicke: “Being able to withstand and organize so many opinions, and still create something that feels like your own, is almost impossible. With so many voices in the room and so much expectation, nothing feels personal.” The recognition at the Variety event comes after the premiere of his directorial debut, The Chronology of Water, which marks his formal transition to directing. Regarding this step, Stewart told ET: “I’ve worked on other people’s films my whole life, since I was nine years old,And I feel like everything has been building up to this moment to find a little space for myself. It's exactly what I've wanted to do my whole life.”

Although there are no official plans for a 'Twilight' remake at the moment, Stewart's statement is generating considerable buzz among fans of the saga. Meanwhile, the actress and director continues to promote 'The Chronology of Water', currently in theaters, and reflect on a 2025 she described as “carbonated” and “the craziest” year of her life.
