Mexico condemns military intervention in Venezuela and calls on the UN to act

The Government of Mexico condemned the military actions carried out by the armed forces of the United States against targets in the territory of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, accusing it of being a “clear violation of Article 2 of the Charter of the United Nations (UN)."

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum shared her government's official position on her official account on "any State, or in any other manner inconsistent with the Purposes of the United Nations," the Mexican president quoted. Early Saturday morning, there were several attacks in the city of Caracas, while President Donald Trump claimed to have arrested Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, although other reports indicate that this has not occurred. Mexico called for dialogue in the region to resolve differences, and warned that military intervention would jeopardize the stability of the hemisphere. "Latin America and the Caribbean is a zone of peace, built on the foundation of mutual respect, the peaceful settlement of disputes, and the prohibition of the use and threat of force.
