The tightening of the immigration policy implemented by President Donald Trump starting on January 20 of last year, when he assumed the US presidency for the second time and under the promise of carrying out the largest deportation of immigrants in history, translates into more than 271,000 Mexicans sent back to their nation.
During a conference held at the National Palace in Mexico City, Sergio Salomón Céspedes, commissioner of the National Migration Institute (INM), explained that, between January 20 and August 13, 271,193 Mexicans who remained in US territory without documents to support their stay were deported.
Of this amount, 171,508 reentered Mexico by land through the different repatriation points installed on the border.
Likewise, the remaining 99,685 arrived by air on 816 flights that landed at 10 airports in the country.
The official indicated that, as part of the support provided by the current federal administration, all Mexicans repatriated by the US government are treated with dignity and all their rights are recognized.
"The government of Mexico, through its different entities, takes the necessary steps to safeguard its integrity through diligent, respectful and dignified information, recognizing how free Mexicans have all their rights as long as they are in their territory," he indicated.
It turned out that 95% of the repatriates are from eight states: Chiapas, Guanajuato, Guerrero, Veracruz, Oaxaca, Michoacán, Puebla and the State of Mexico.
More precisely, 23,915 people are originally from Chiapas; 21,069 from Guanajuato; 20,115 from Guerrero; 18,003 from Veracruz; 17,810 from Oaxaca; 17,113 from Michoacán; 16,031 from Puebla; and 15,338 from the State of Mexico.
Upon returning to Mexican soil, all of these people receive a Bienestar Paisano card with the equivalent of $118 dollars as support to reduce their transportation costs to the communities where they lived before emigrating to United States territory.
In addition, those who require it also receive a birth certificate and their Unique Population Registration Code (CURP).
Through the program called “Mexico embraces you,” which was implemented by President Claudia Sheinbaum, those who were expelled from the United States have been provided with more than 453,000 servings of hot food and more than 79,700 sessions of medical and psychological care.
